Confidence. Assurance. Peace of mind.
As an architect, designer, or owner, your reputation is on the line. You and your clients cannot afford problematic or inferior woodwork. By working AWI Quality Certified firms, and specifiying AWI's Quality Architectural Woodwork Standards on your project, you can be assured that your project will be undertaken with a measurable degree of quality— before, during, and after the project is completed.
More than just a label, AWI Quality Certification puts the resources of the Architectural Woodwork Institute behind your project.
- First, all woodwork firms that wish to carry the AWI Quality Certification seal must underego extensive testing, a site inspection to ensure compliance, and a thorough check of references from the firm's previous work.
- Quality Certification is based on adherence to AWI's Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards, a published set of standards used by both the United States and Canada. These standards are endorsed by the General Services Administration (GSA) and the American Subcontractors Association (ASA).
- Once your job begins, a QCP representative— an impartial industry expert— can review shop drawings to ensure they meet AWI standards.
- After the job is completed, you can also call for an inspection to be sure the final product meets specifications. Both this inspection and the preliminary review are done at no cost to you.
- If problems or deficiencies are found, they are noted in a comprehensive, easy to read report, and the woodworker will correct any problems.
How do I Specify AWI Quality Certified?
The first step to specifying AWI Quality Certified is to find an AWI Quality Certified woodwork firm. The AWI Quality Certification Program site has a directory which allows you to search for an AWIQCP-certified firm. From there, it's just a matter of informing your chosen firm, and including the proper language on project documents:
-
Quality Standard: Unless otherwise indicated, comply with AWI’s Architectural Woodwork Quality Standards for grades of interior architectural woodwork, construction, finishes and other requirements.
- Provide AWI Quality Certification Program {Labels} {Certificates} indicating that the woodwork, {including installation}, complies with requirements of grades specified. This project has been registered as AWI/QCP project number ____. OR, the Contractor, upon award of work, shall register the work under this section with the AWI Quality Certification Program (800-449-8811.)
